RVers 10 Commandments
of Courteous Camping

I Thou shalt have fun...lots of fun and enjoyment by practicing courteous camping...never at the expense, discomfort, or frustration of fellow campers. Always follow the Golden Rule to “Do unto others as you wish them to do unto you.”

II Thou shalt travel the highways and byways at a safe speed and shalt keep aware of any traffic build-up behind (use mirrors often) so that you can pull off carefully to the side of the road to let other traffic safely pass.

III Thou shalt (if a pet owner) take care to control your pet at all times, to clean up after your pet, and to recognize that others may not love your pet as you do, so .... keep you pet from imposing on others.

IV Thou shalt respect the campsite of your fellow campers by not walking through, extending over, or placing your personal property within their property boundaries. Observe how other campsites are occupied and try as best as possible to align your RV and set up your campsite in like manner. Get to know your neighbors and extend pleasantries and mutual understandings.

V Thou shalt observe the desire of others for the peace and tranquility aspect of camping by keeping all noise levels down including talking, radio, CD, TV, pets (do not leave unattended in RV where howling or meowing may occur), engine idling (especially early in the morning)…observing “quiet hours” and then some! If you are arriving late, set up the bare minimum required for the night.

VI Thou shalt read and observe the rules, regulations and guidelines set forth by the campground management for the mutual enjoyment and benefit of all campers. If in doubt about any of their edicts then take the matter up with the operators of the campground to fully understand and, if not in agreement, then move on.

VII Thou shalt only boondock (non-hookup camping in wilderness areas or on pavement such as truck stops and shopping center parking lots) when it is safe, necessary and permissible.

VIII Thou shalt dispose of your waste in an approved dump station in a clean and efficient manner…leaving the dump station in as clean a condition as you would like it to be when you arrive…and pay a fair fee for this convenience when applicable.

IX Thou shalt keep your campsite tidy at all times so as not to be an eyesore to others and thus spoil their camping experience. Pick up any trash and dispose in provided trash containers or pack out until it can be disposed of properly. Frequently check that your sewer hookup is secure. Leave campfire site clean for next user.

X Thou shalt be friendly and sociable with as many fellow campers as possible without becoming a nuisance or unwelcome guest. RVers are or should be the best people to associate with … taking all back to a time of being “our brother’s keeper.” Let’s build on this wonderful camaraderie!
